Comic Exhibition: Hoffen, wenn die Welt schmerzt
March 26 - May 23,2026, Museum of Capitalism, Berlin
Hoffen, wenn die Welt schmerzt [Hope in Times of World-Weariness] is a vivid opening that explores hope as a practice of resistance in a time of crisis.
Using accessible language, the graphic novel’s narrator explores the connections between imagination, ideology, and social change. Together with her interview partners, she sheds light on complex topics—ranging from critiques of capitalism and neocolonialism to the challenges facing contemporary movements—while defying a zeitgeist caught somewhere between capitalist realism and Weltschmerz.
The exhibition based on the graphic novel explores the book’s themes through a participatory process of reflection. It displays selected pages from the comic and drawings from the research process—which were further developed for the graphic novel—interwoven with narrative elements made of cardboard and paper. Like the two-dimensional pages of a book, they invite visitors to engage with their own doubts and convictions while daring to take a step into the future.
